Project Airport Operations Center

Airport/Facilities Planning & Design

Salt Lake City, Utah, USA

Project Description

The JW Group (JWG) was part of a team of consultants in a multiyear capital development program to enhance IT systems and to provide increased support for Delta Airlines at the Salt Lake City International Airport. As part of that project, the team was involved with the coordination and design of numerous Information Systems and building programs simultaneously including the relocation of the Airport Operation Center.

Salt Lake City Department of Aviation (SLCDA) wanted to construct a new Airport Operations Center (AOC). The new AOC facility now serves as the primary location for airport operations personnel, public safety and security personnel, a campus data center, and the point of demarcation for all service providers supporting the campus. This project included the renovation of an existing building to meet the operational and functional needs of the activities that will be supported from this facility. Included within this project was the relocation of systems, personnel, and supporting infrastructure from the current location of the operations center (within the terminal building) to a new isolated site on the airport campus, as well as design of new systems utilizing technology to enhance operations. The JWG supported all phases of this project, from the initial conceptual design and programming, through design activities, and construction oversight. This included the development of conceptual design documentation and cost estimates, construction drawings and specifications, and field inspection reports as part of the construction oversight.
