The Gerald R. Ford International Airport Authority (GFIAA) contracted The JW Group (JWG) to develop an organizational assessment for the Information Technology Department. The goal of this assessment was to position the airport on supporting the future technology related systems and applications that support the Authority and airport. The JWG analyzed the IT organization’s future needs in terms of its current and future roles, skillsets, staffing levels, and organization structure. The JWG developed staffing recommendations based on the desired requirements of IT leadership, in terms of knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs), additional IT roles required over the 3-5 year timeframe – both in-house and potentially 3rd party (contractors), recommended a future organization structure and alignment by key functions/services to be performed by the Authority’s IT Department (e.g., application support, project delivery, technical infrastructure, communications/network, etc.) and identified a number of IT-related benchmarks and targets that the Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR) should consider for future IT performance assessment and staffing decision-making.
The assessment provided a desired staffing framework for leadership, a vision for the Authority’s IT department, including defining work groups, roles, staffing levels and use of 3rd party contractors for specific types of work/support and an implementation roadmap to guide leadership on achievements and an organizational vision.
