Project IT Modernization and Infrastructure Assessment

Technology Implementation, Technology Planning

San Antonio, Texas, USA

Project Description

San Antonio International Airport completed an IT Infrastructure Modernization Project. The first task in this project was to perform an assessment of the communications infrastructure supporting the overall airport campus. The JW Group (JWG) personnel were tasked with completing the assessment which included a review of the existing conditions of the cable infrastructure (outside and inside plant), a basis of design for future cable infrastructure and local area network, and a phasing approach for implementing the recommended enhancements. The JWG personnel performed design related services for a complete structured cabling system and local area network throughout the entire campus. This design entails identifying locations, design and construction of new communications rooms and outside plant distribution nodes, design of the fiber optic and copper backbone, and design of the supporting local area network. The communications infrastructure supports all low voltage systems on the Airport campus. Also included in the design was a phasing and migration plan to migrate from the current conditions to the new communications infrastructure while keeping all systems operational.
