Project Network Evaluation and Assessment

Technology Implementation, Technology Planning

Charlotte, North Carolina, USA

Project Description

The network supporting the systems, applications and devices at the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport (CLT) campus and facilities expanded organically during a time of growth to meet the short-term needs of the airport.  A long-term networking strategy was desired to facilitate the migration to a networking architecture that included various improvements and modifications. This was required to bring the network in-line with industry standards, follow best practices and comply with the policies and procedures of the City of Charlotte and the Department of Aviation. The JW Group (JWG) was tasked to conduct an evaluation and assessment of the campus-wide network and provide recommendations for improvements to the network. The JWG performed an audit of the existing topology, architecture, and configurations from both a logical and physical perspective, held stakeholder interviews and workshops and reviewed existing documentation including support policies and procedures. Deliverables included recommendations for topology and architecture improvements, network engineering and design documentation and recommended improvements to hardware, equipment and devices. The JWG provided a migration document and implementation support through scheduling and coordinating activities identified in the plan.
