Project AOIS and Common Use Support Services Methodology Review

Strategic/Operational

Miami, Florida, USA

Project Description

The IT Division at the Miami International Airport and their airline tenants were concerned with the technical approach for their Airport Operational Information System (AOIS) and the maintenance and support approach for the AOIS and the Common Use Passenger Processing System (CUPPS). The JW Group (JWG) was retained to perform an analysis of the AOIS technical configuration and integration approach as well as the processes and procedures associated with supporting this system and the CUPPS and Flight Information Display System (FIDS).

As part of the project The JWG performed an analysis of the technical and integration configuration of the AOIS. This analysis included reviews of alternate approaches and configurations as well as identification and analysis of alternate system(s) providers. The analysis also consisted of a cost/benefit review of migrating to an alternate approach for the AOIS. The results of the analysis concluded that the existing configuration and integration approach was meeting all technical, functional, and performance requirements. It was further concluded that the implementation of an alternate methodology/approach would be an extremely costly effort from both a financial and operational disruption standpoint with no apparent gains from a technical, functional, or performance standpoint.

In addition to the AOIS analysis, The JWG performed a review and analysis of the maintenance and support methodology for the AOIS and CUPPS. This review included interviews with system end users, stakeholders, and support personnel, analysis of service level agreements and contractual responsibilities, and reviews of various support contracts. The results of this analysis concluded that multiple support contracts were in place performing the same or similar activities and that by implementing an alternate approach, economies of scale benefits could be realized with approximate yearly cost savings of $200,000.
